West Coast Wednesday! by Dance Fanatics

West Coast Wednesday!™ welcomes dancers of all levels in a friendly way.

We bring the dance convention experience to you by providing this weekly dance with competition quality swing music and professional dance instruction. West Coast Wednesday is a fun way to raise the level of your dancing.

West Coast Wednesday starts at 7:30 PM with a beginning West Coast Swing lesson (7:30 PM to 8:15 PM), followed by an intermediate WCS lesson from 8:15 to 9:00 PM, and then open dancing from 9 to midnight(ish). These lessons feature professional dance instruction by teachers who explain solid basics and sizzling intermediate moves.

No previous dance experience is necessary for our beginning classes. We play a song prior to the lesson for those of you who want to get warmed up. These classes feature a small collection of moves that will become the foundation of your West Coast Swing. These foundation moves are covered over a period of several weeks. When we finish covering these moves, we start again. We welcome you to drop in to our lessons, meaning that you don't need to take them in a set sequence. For any moves you miss, you can pick them up the next time they are covered.

We rotate partners frequently in our dance lessons. This helps you learn better dance skills. It's also a great opportunity for you to introduce yourself to the other people in your lesson, since you may want to dance with them later. For those that don't wish to rotate during lessons, that's OK too. Bringing a partner is completely optional. Singles and couples are equally welcome.

We play a song in between the two lessons so that you can practice what you learned in the prior lesson, get warmed up for the next lesson, or both.

Our Intermediate lessons require the permission of our instructor. These drop in lessons build on a solid foundation of basic moves, however, the basic moves themselves are not covered. A large and expanding variety of intermediate moves are covered. This class is a blast!

We offer a warm up session at the beginning of our intermediate lesson for both our beginning and intermediate lesson attendees. In addition to being fun, the warm up helps us learn to dance with smooth and fluid motion.

We encourage lots of social dancing after the lessons. Typical attendance ranges from 70 to 110 dancers.

Plenty of social dancing follows our lessons. Progressive dance music is played by Tim "DJ TJ" Johnson on the Dance Fanatics Pro Audio system. DJ TJ accepts requests your favorite dance music. He plays all requests if he has the music (and the request is within the theme), and if he doesn't have the music, he puts the request on his music to audition list.

The West Coast Wednesday!™ dance theme is somewhat flexible. We put a strong emphasis on West Coast Swing with a lesser emphasis on Shag, Lindy Hop, and East Coast Swing. We may also play a few non-swing dances ether by request or for a little variety, such as Hustle or Cha-Cha. Many songs are great for several dances, such as Jenifer Paige: Crush - Great for Hustle, West Coast Swing, and Cha-Cha. The mix of dances varies at each dance since we encourage requests.

With our quality control system for dance music, we play one great dance song after another at each dance. We use a system called the Electronic DJ™, a DJ Tool designed and optimized specifically for this purpose.

DJ Timothy Michael AKD DJ TJ, who most people call Tim, has been developing The Electronic DJ™ since April 1998. This DJ tool which is optimized for dances give Tim the opportunity to leave the DJ booth and to dance with people of all levels, which Tim loves to do.

The experienced dancers inspire the beginning dancers. Everyone has a good time. People leave our dances tired.
